pense를 sense로, sounds를 pounds로 바꾼 말장난이다.
본래 말은 한 푼씩 모으면 목돈이 된다는 교훈이다.

flamingoes and mustard both bite.
bite가 '물다'와 '자극적인 맛을 내다'라는 뜻이 있다.

'Of course it is,' said the Duchess, who seemed ready to agree to everything that Alice said; 'there's a large mustard-mine near here. And the moral of that is—"The more there is of mine, the less there is of yours."' 앨리스가 겨자는 동물이 아니라 광물 mineral 같은 거라고 지적하자, 공작부인이 그 mineral을 가져다가 mustard-mine으로 말을 만들고 mine으로 교훈적인 말을 만들어낸 것이다.

 

 

We called him Tortoise because he taught us. 
Tortoise와 taught us는 발음이 비슷하다.
